Project of the week: a slab that humbled me
A V5 slab problem, three sessions of failure, and what bouldering keeps teaching me about patience.
Slab is honest. There’s nothing to grab and nothing to blame — just friction, balance, and your willingness to trust your feet.
The problem
A high V5 with a blank mid-section: two smears, a long reach to a sloper, then a delicate rock-over to finish. No power move bails you out. You either commit to the feet or you come off.
The hold is there. The doubt is the crux.
What it taught me
Three sessions in, I stopped trying to muscle it and started trusting the rubber. Sent it on the next go. Same lesson as always: slow down, breathe, commit.
Next up: a steep overhang that wants exactly the opposite of everything above.
